Send us something to check

Not sure whether a call, message, link, app or file is real? Send it and we will tell you what it is. Free, and there is no sales conversation afterwards, because there is nothing to sell.

We read these ourselves between other work. There is no rota and no guaranteed response time.

What helps us answer quickly

  • A screenshot of the message, including the sender's number or ID.
  • The link exactly as you received it, do not open it first.
  • What they asked you for, and what you have done so far.
  • The app name and publisher, if you were asked to install something.

What not to send

  • Never your OTP, PIN, passwords, full card number or net banking credentials. We will never ask, and neither will any bank or police officer.
  • Not intimate images. If you are being threatened with photos or video, send the threats and the account details, not the pictures, they tell us nothing we need. Our sextortion guide covers what to do with them, and the privacy page explains why we ask.
  • Money. We do not charge, so anyone asking you to pay is not us.

What we can and cannot do

We investigate the public record and tell you what it shows: how old the domain is, who really publishes the app, whether the company exists, where the photo came from. What we cannot do is compel anyone, freeze an account, or recover money that has gone, anyone promising you that is running the second scam. Reporting to us is not reporting a crime; 1930 and cybercrime.gov.in are.

Corrections and press

Found an error in a guide? Email [email protected] with the page and what is wrong, corrections jump the queue, and our editorial policy explains how they are made. Journalists and researchers: same address.

Your data

Anything you send reaches us through Gmail or WhatsApp, so Google or Meta handles it too. We delete what you send within 30 days of the conversation ending, sooner if you ask. The privacy page sets this out in full.
